As an alternative to Poltrona Frau's traditional material for upholstery - leather - the company offers a rich selection of fabrics.
The foundation of the fabric collection was laid in the 1930s. In the 1990s, it significantly expanded with new patterns and textures. With Poltrona Frau entering new markets in countries with warmer and more humid climates, where fabric upholstery is preferred over leather, the collection received new development in 2014.
Poltrona Frau textiles, like leather, are 100% Made in Italy. The collections are developed at the Poltrona Frau Style and Design Institute and produced in Italian factories that have long supplied high-quality textiles to premium fashion brands. All fabrics feature exclusive designs and are created specifically for Poltrona Frau, in line with the company's style and high-quality standards.
One of Poltrona Frau's distinctive features is that furniture upholstery is exclusively done in a combination of "fabric + leather." Despite the advantages of fabric in certain cases, the factory remains true to its DNA - leather. The frames of the furniture pieces are always in leather, while cushions and armrests of sofas and chairs can be upholstered in fabric. The color palettes of leather and fabric are harmoniously coordinated, creating combinations in Poltrona Frau's refined style. Along with the 165 shades in the leather palette, the fabric collection provides an infinite number of possible solutions.
The current collection consists of 22 lines and includes 108 exclusive patterns and textures. All lines are divided into 4 groups according to the tactile properties of the fabrics they contain.
1st Group - "Basic Structures": Damiè, Piquè, Twill, Milano, Guatemala, Penelope, Nilo. These are timeless fabrics with a light relief, simple yet refined texture, made in the finest weaving traditions.
2nd Group - "Decorative Patterns": Cheope, Nouveau, Millerighe, London. Fabrics with ornaments inspired by world cultural monuments, major styles in art and design, the golden age of cinema, and haute couture.
3rd Group - "Wool-Not-Wool": Melange, Loop, Giano, Paltò, Bouclè, Scottish. A high percentage of wool in fabrics of this group makes them particularly pleasant to the touch. Using textures traditional in the fashion world gives the upholstery sophistication and charm.
4th Group - "Velvety Feelings": Shine, Hermoso, Koi, Barkley, Vega. Fabrics with a "touch of chic," characterized by softness and smoothness.
High-quality raw materials are used to create Poltrona Frau textiles: cotton, linen, wool, viscose, polyester. Combining different materials in one fabric depends on the effect that needs to be achieved and compliance with fire-resistant and water-repellent standards. For example, adding viscose increases its durability, while blending wool with linen retains the first's softness and enriches the fabric with the coolness of linen, which is especially relevant in hot climates. Recommended textile upholstery options are selected for each model of soft furniture based on its characteristics, features, and design.
In addition to the main collection of exclusive textiles, special solutions are developed every 1-2 years for limited editions of Poltrona Frau iconic pieces.
To meet the high technical requirements of the HoReCa textile segment, in addition to the existing offerings, Poltrona Frau collaborated with the Danish manufacturer Kvadrat in 2019, known for its innovation and fresh approach to textile design. The collection includes 10 lines, totaling 354 different shades and textures.
